Liz J.T. & RONNO demonstrate “brain-based” fitness movements to ECE teachers
I had a wonderful time yesterday at the Waterloo Board’s DECE Professional Development Day. I presented 3 workshops about developmental movement patterns and primitive reflexes to the most delightful and energetic Early Childhood educators! It is so exciting to work with such keen and uninhibited learners. Knowing that they are going to go back to their classes and try out what I taught them with their little children truly is the best gift!
I know without a doubt, this is what my next journey will be. I am so excited about our new CD, Wiggle Jiggle Fitness Fun, as it is perfect for young children. I do need to somehow figure out a way that I can work more with Early Childhood educators and Kindergarten teachers. If only every day I could go to different classes and work with children alongside educators, showing them how to assist with developmental movement patterns, Brain Gym, and reflex work. I think these skills would help children with self-regulation and make learning easier for them.
Maybe now is the time to look into designing a course for ECE teachers to support their training. Who knows what the future holds!!! – Liz Jones-Twomey
RONNO adds about the day: “That indeed was fun! And it’s very satisfying when teachers ‘get it’ re: the power & potential of music-based activities to promote children’s physical fitness, enhance overall well-being, and help make learning easier.”
