Tuesdays with Twomey - Flying Airplane with Partners

Liz's class demonstrates a great game for self-regulation. Children lie on their stomach and extend their arms and legs and pretend to fly with a partner. They also show how to use a pipe cleaner and feather, and a windmill toy as a fun game to play with students. The purpose of these activities is to help integrate the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) and the Landau Reflex. Both of these reflexes are linked to the vestibular system to help develop a sense of balance. These games also help to increase muscle tone in the back and neck.
