Tuesdays with Twomey - Letter Formation "Alphabet Eights"

Today we are going to show you the Brain Gym activity "Alphabet 8's." I start with Lazy 8's. The movement goes up to the left and around, then cross through the midline and goes up to the right and around. When I teach letter formation, I start with all the letters that are formed by going up to the left and around (a,c, d, e, f, g, o, q, s). Then we do the letters that go down the midline and over to the right (b,f,h,I,j,k,l,m,n,p,r,t,u). Then (v,w,x,y,z).

Letter formation is critical! When I taught grade 6, the students with reading challenges all formed their letters from the bottom up. I don't scientifically know the reason why this occurred, I just know letter formation in the early years is important. Enjoy this session.
