BENEFITS: These sequential developmental movement patterns (starting with spinal movement, then homologous movement, next homolateral movement, and finally contralateral movement) support and increase the depth of integration of the body and brain. Spinal movement supports our understanding of the vertical, postural midline. Movement of both the arms and legs at the same time supports the development of lateral stability (i.e., sense of left and right side of the body). It provides for exploration of each side of the midline before crossing midline, helping in learning to read and write.

Somewhere along the course of a child’s development, basic developmental movement patterns that provide the foundation for stress-free living and learning may have been skipped or not practised. Participation in the activities on this CD allows us the opportunity to revisit the movement patterns to support their development and maturation.
